What do you get when you purchase a Blue Gum Joinery audiovisual cabinet?

Knowledge and design

Blue Gum Joinery Pty Ltd, manufactures of the JISC range of audiovisual cabinets have an extensive background in the design and creation of joinery specifically for use with audiovisual equipment. Our knowledge comes from over 17 years experience working with various major AV companies, designing and building cabinets that require special needs for the equipment that is to be housed inside.

All our JISC range and custom creations are designed not only with good looks and quality of construction, but with the ventilation and cable management needs of your equipment in mind.

Construction

Construction method is without a doubt the main thing that separates high quality specialized AV cabinets from the mass produced items found in stores. These types of mass produced cabinets are constructed mostly with “Cam” locking nuts that are locked together with the use of an “Allen key” of some sort. External panels are locked together to create the cabinet, usually with a thin ply back tacked on to give lateral support. Advantage of this method is cheap manufacture costs and a lightweight unit. With the disadvantage being weak construction and cheap materials and hardware.

Blue Gum Joinery constructs the JISC range of cabinets using an internal cabinet method. This method involves constructing an internal cabinet for each section of the unit, then fixing the external panels and doors to the internal cabinet. The advantage of this method is having an internal cabinet that is both glued and screwed together with a solid back, creating a solid box with which the external panels can be attached. Internal colour remains consistent and lateral strength is extreme. With the disadvantage being high manufacture costs and a heavy unit.

Technology

Utilisation of the latest technology, from designing of cabinet parts with computer aided design software, to cutting out cabinet components with the precision of our computer controlled machinery. JISC Audiovisual cabinets are cut to the highest of accuracy.

Air Flow

Audiovisual equipment can get very hot, especially Amplifiers and set-top box’s. Your equipment needs to be in a ventilated space so it can breathe. We understand this and have designed our cabinets to provide the airflow your equipment needs to function properly. Internal component cabinets are slot ventilated on the floor and shelves to allow natural convection. This not only works well but also looks great, as it is in keeping with the ventilation slots on your equipment. Component fans are recommended and can be supplied in cases where high heat components will be placed behind doors.

Materials

Materials used in the JISC range of Audiovisual joinery are always of a high standard. We use MR MDF (moisture resistant, medium density fibreboard) rather than the more common Particle Board used in most AV cabinets. MDF is a denser board, which gives more strength and gives a nicer finish when machined.

Hardware

Hardware such as door hinges and drawer runners are often overlooked. All JISC Audiovisual cabinets are constructed using the highest quality hardware available. Our drawers and hinges are made by ‘Blum’, well known for their high quality and reliable products. We use the ‘blum tandem box’ stainless steel drawer systems with ant-slam mechanism. Other hardware such as anti-slam fittings for doors and locking ‘cam’ style shelf rests are also used.

Attention to detail

Being a family business, reputation and quality of work is of up most importance. Constructing quality well functioning cabinets not only needs high quality materials and hardware, but attention to detail. Some details you can expect from a JISC product are – opening end-panels for access to components from sides of cabinet, anti-slam fittings, rubber door bumps, well fitted external panels, removable false panels to conceal cables, cable void at back of internal cabinet to allow you to run cables the entire length of joinery, access holes for cables to outside of cabinets.

Delivery and Installation

Where delivery and installation is required, you can be sure that all care is taken, and the job is done in a professional courteous manner by direct employees of Blue Gum Joinery Pty Ltd (NOT contractors). Because of the construction method, most JISC Audio-visual cabinets are heavy and require a certain amount of on-site assembly. This will be done with as little disturbance as possible, with drop sheets supplied, and the area vacuumed and wiped clean on completion. Blue Gum Joinery Pty Ltd is also fully insured.
